How to draw a rose — easy step-by-step drawing for kids

Draw a rose in 6 simple steps. In every picture the new lines are orange and the lines you have already drawn are grey — so you always know what to add next.

Start drawing

Step by step

  1. Step 1

Start in the middle with a small curly spiral — the tight centre of the rose.

  2. Step 2

Draw a cup-shaped petal around the spiral.

  3. Step 3

Add one big petal on each side, curving down to a point.

  4. Step 4

Draw two small pointed leaves (sepals) under the flower.

  5. Step 5

Draw a long stem going down, with two little thorns.

  6. Step 6

Add a leaf on each side of the stem, with a line down the middle. Colour your rose!

Drawing tips for kids

✏️ Draw lightly first

Use a pencil and press softly — light lines are easy to rub out.

🔍 Look at the orange lines

Each step adds only the orange lines. Everything grey is already on your paper.

🔵 Start with big shapes

Circles, ovals and triangles first; small details like eyes and whiskers last.

🎨 Colour it in

Go over the final lines with a dark pencil or pen, then colour your picture any way you like.
