A very common habit is to say every -ed as an extra beat: “jump-ed”, “play-ed”. In standard English, -ed adds a beat ONLY after t or d (want-ed, need-ed). Otherwise it is just a t sound (jumped = “jumpt”) or a d sound (played = “playd”).
✓ You passed this lesson’s test.
Only t and d get an extra beat — “after t or d say id; otherwise -ed is just a t or d sound — no extra beat”
Use it for: Every past-tense verb: I walked to school, we played cricket, she wanted tea.
Check: want-ed = 2 beats; jumped = 1 beat ✓
