    How to say it

    verb-ed / 2nd form · did + base verb · was / were + verb-ing — “Simple past = finished action; past continuous = action in progress then”

    1. Regular verbs add -ed: work → worked, play → played. Irregular change: go → went, eat → ate, buy → bought.
    2. Questions and 'not' use did + base verb: Did you go? I didn't go. (went नहीं, go)
    3. was (I / he / she / it) and were (you / we / they): I was tired. They were late. (था / थे)
    4. In progress in the past: was / were + verb-ing — I was sleeping when you called. (सो रहा था)

Use it for: Telling a friend about your weekend, explaining why you were late, describing a trip or a match you watched.

Worked example: I went to Pune last week.

    1. Try each option in the gap: went / go / gone.
    2. 'Last week' = past, so went (2nd form of go). (बीते समय के लिए went।)

Check: Can I say four things I did yesterday and one thing I was doing at 8 p.m.? ✓

    ✏️ Practice
