    How to say it

Could you + verb? · Would you mind + verb-ing? · Can / May I + verb? — “The longer the question, the more polite it sounds”

    1. Ask someone to do something: Can you…? (friendly) → Could you…? (polite) → Would you mind + -ing? (very polite)
    2. Ask permission for yourself: Can I…? / May I…? / Do you mind if I…? (क्या मैं…?)
    3. Direct orders (to friends, in a hurry): Pass me the water. Stop talking. Add 'please' to soften.
    4. Reply: Sure. / Of course. / Not at all (to 'Would you mind'). Say no politely: Sorry, I can't right now.

Use it for: Asking a stranger the time, borrowing notes, asking an auto driver to stop, asking a colleague for a file.

Worked example: Would you mind opening the door?

    1. Try each option in the gap: opening / open / to open.
    2. After 'Would you mind' use verb-ing. (Would you mind के बाद -ing।)

Check: Can I ask the same thing three ways — Can you, Could you and Would you mind? ✓

    ✏️ Practice

Read the Hindi or listen (🔊), choose or build the English and press Check. Stuck? Press “Show me how”.
