Speaker's tip

Find the skill, use the tip — “decide which speaking skill a question is about, then use that lesson’s tip”

  1. Read the question and find the skill: nerves, voice, body, eyes, pronunciation or audience.
  2. Use that lesson’s tip — breathe and prepare, back row and steady pace, pause and pitch, stand tall, look around, finish every word, audience first.
  3. Read every option before you choose.

Use it for: Revising Part 1 before a class talk, an elocution contest or a speaking exam.

Worked example: 🔉 Your voice fades away at the end of every sentence. What is this called? → trailing off

  1. The last words of each sentence get softer and softer.
  2. This is called trailing off — keep your breath to the end.

Check: Practise aloud: give a 1-minute talk on “My favourite place” using one pause, eye contact with three people and steady feet ✓
