The grammar rule

will + base, be going to + base — “after will or going to, the verb never changes”

  1. Time words: tomorrow, next week, next Sunday, next month.
  2. will + base verb for every subject: he will play (not “will plays”).
  3. am / is / are + going to + base verb: I am going to, she is going to, they are going to.

Use it for: Plans, promises and predictions: holiday plans, New Year resolutions and invitations.

Worked example: She ___ going to clean the room next Sunday. → is

  1. “next Sunday” is in the future; “going to” needs am, is or are before it.
  2. “She” takes is: She is going to clean the room.

Check: “She will clean the room next Sunday” means the same ✓
