The school assembly speech — Public speaking for kids

Morning assembly is the best stage to start on. Greet respectfully (“Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends”), give one clear message and thank everyone. Match the topic to the day: freedom on Independence Day (15 August), our Constitution on Republic Day (26 January), teachers on Teachers’ Day (5 September), childhood on Children’s Day (14 November), plastic and trees on World Environment Day (5 June).

Speaker's tip

Greet, say, thank — “greet the Principal and teachers, give one clear message, thank everyone”

  1. Greet the Principal first, then teachers and friends; keep it short; speak clearly to the back row; end with “Thank you”.
  2. Special days: Independence Day 15 August, Republic Day 26 January, Teachers’ Day 5 September, Children’s Day 14 November, World Environment Day 5 June, World Water Day 22 March, Hindi Diwas 14 September.
  3. A thought for the day is one short wise saying (under a minute); news is read clearly and correctly.

Use it for: Assembly duty, special-day celebrations, thought for the day and reading the school news.

Worked example: 🏫 Which day suits an assembly speech on our Constitution and its values? → Republic Day

  1. Our Constitution came into force on 26 January — Republic Day.
  2. So the topic suits Republic Day.

Check: Practise aloud: give a 1-minute assembly speech for Children’s Day, starting with “Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends” ✓
