Tiny stories — Reading comprehension for kids

A tiny story has someone in it and something that happens: “Meena lost her red ball. Her dog found it under the bed.” Find who is in the story, what they did, and where it happened.

Reading tip

Who did what? — “find the person in the story and what they did”

  1. Find who is in the story.
  2. Find what happened and where.
  3. Words like “he”, “she” and “it” point back to someone or something named before.

Use it for: Story time, Class 1 reading books and “read the story and answer” worksheets.

Worked example: What did Riya lose? → her pencil

  1. Read the passage: Riya lost her pencil. She looked under the bed. The pencil was in her bag!
  2. Find the line with the answer: “Riya lost her pencil.”
  3. These words give the answer: her pencil.

Check: The line “Riya lost her pencil.” gives exactly “her pencil” ✓
