Story unseen passages — Reading comprehension for kids
An unseen passage is one you have not read before. Read it once to understand the story, then read the question and go back to find the exact line. Questions ask about reasons, order, word meanings, opposites and the best title.
Read twice — “read once for the story, then again for the answer”
Read the passage once for the whole story.
Read the question, then scan the passage for its key word.
For the best title, choose the one that covers the whole passage, not just one line.
Use it for: Class 5 English exams, unseen passage practice and Olympiad reading sections.
Worked example: Where was the calf stuck? → In the mud
Read the passage: Kabir lived in a small village near a river. One morning, he saw a calf stuck in the mud on the bank. The calf was crying loudly. Kabir ran to call his uncle, who brought a long rope. Together they tied the rope around the calf and pulled gently. Slowly, the calf came out of the mud. Its mother licked it happily. Kabir’s uncle said he was proud of him.
Find the line with the answer: “he saw a calf stuck in the mud on the bank”
These words give the answer: In the mud.
Check: The line “he saw a calf stuck in the mud on the bank” gives exactly “In the mud” ✓
