Word tip

Point and name — “point to the part on your own body and say what it does”

  1. Name the part by its job: we smell with the nose, we chew with the teeth.
  2. Joints join two parts: the wrist joins hand and arm, the ankle joins foot and leg.
  3. Sort parts into the face, inside the body, and arms and legs.

Use it for: Science lessons on the human body, health and hygiene talk, and describing people.

Worked example: Fill the gap: We wear a watch on the ___. → wrist

  1. Point to where a watch goes: where the hand joins the arm.
  2. That joint is the wrist.

Check: A watch goes round the wrist; anklets go round the ankle ✓
