Word tip

Name the skill first — “decide what the question tests, then use that lesson’s method”

  1. Read the question and decide which skill it tests.
  2. Use that lesson’s method: swap test for synonyms, opposite end for antonyms, meaning for homophones, split the word for prefixes and suffixes.
  3. Check your answer by reading it back in the sentence.

Use it for: Revising Part 2 before school tests, English Olympiads and scholarship exams.

Worked example: Fill the gap: a ___ of ships → fleet

  1. This is a collective noun question: a group word + of.
  2. A group of ships is a fleet.

Check: “The navy sent a fleet of ships” ✓
