Poems with questions — Reading comprehension for kids
Class 4 poems are a little longer. Read them aloud, line by line. Questions ask what a line says, which words rhyme, what a word means in the poem, and what the poem is mostly about.
Line by line, then the whole — “understand each line, then ask what the whole poem is about”
Read the poem aloud, line by line.
Find the line that answers the question.
Rhyming words end with the same sound; the title or main idea covers the whole poem.
Use it for: Poem questions in Class 4 English exams, recitation and creative writing.
Worked example: What colour are the clouds? → Grey
Read the passage: The clouds roll in, all grey and deep, / They wake the frogs from summer sleep. / The first drops fall on dusty ground, / And fill the air with a pattering sound. / The peacock spreads its tail to dance, / The children splash at every chance. / The thirsty fields drink up the rain, / And everything turns green again.
Find the line with the answer: “The clouds roll in, all grey and deep,”
These words give the answer: Grey.
Check: The line “The clouds roll in, all grey and deep,” gives exactly “Grey” ✓
