Word tip

Opposite end — “an antonym means the very opposite, not just something different”

  1. Work out what the word means.
  2. Look for the word that means the very opposite: generous (happy to give) ↔ selfish (thinks only of himself).
  3. Prefixes can make antonyms: honest → dishonest, include → exclude.

Use it for: Antonym exercises in school tests, writing contrasts in essays, and competitive English.

Worked example: Which word is the antonym (opposite) of “generous”? → selfish

  1. A generous person likes to share and give.
  2. Someone who thinks only of himself and does not share is selfish — the opposite.

Check: “Riya is generous; her brother is selfish” — the two halves contrast ✓
