About these worksheets

Tracing a number is the first step to writing it. On these sheets your child follows the dotted lines of a numeral, says its name, counts the pictures that go with it and then writes it alone in the empty boxes. The set starts with single numbers 1 to 10 for Nursery and LKG, moves on to 11–20 and the tens for UKG, and goes all the way to 200 for Class 1 children who are ready for three-digit numbers.

Use one sheet a day rather than a stack at once: five to ten calm minutes are enough for little hands. Begin with the sheets that show objects to count, because linking “7” to seven apples builds number sense, not just handwriting. When a child traces a number neatly twice in a row, move to the next one. Older children can use the 101–200 sheets for quick place-value revision. Keep finished sheets in a folder so your child can see how much neater the numbers have become.

Skills practised

  • Writing numerals with the correct starting point and direction
  • Counting objects one by one (one-to-one counting)
  • Recognising numbers 1 to 200 by sight
  • Pencil grip and fine-motor control
  • Number order — what comes before and after

How to use these sheets

  1. Trace the big number in the air with a finger first, saying its name.
  2. Trace the dotted numbers slowly with a pencil, starting at the dot.
  3. Count the pictures, touching each one once.
  4. Write the number on your own in the empty boxes.

Tip for parents and teachers: Many children write 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9 backwards at first — that is normal until about age 6. Point to the start dot and say the stroke aloud (“across and down” for 7) instead of rubbing it out.

Questions

Which class are number tracing worksheets for?

Numbers 1–10 suit Nursery and LKG (ages 3–5), 11–50 suit UKG, and 51–200 suit Class 1. Choose by what your child can already count, not by age alone.

When should a child start tracing numbers?

Usually around age 3½ to 4, once they can hold a crayon and count to five. Start with fat crayons and 1–5, then move to pencils.

Why does my child write numbers backwards?

Reversals are a normal stage. Trace the same number daily for a week, always from the start dot, and they usually disappear by Class 1.

Are these worksheets free?

Yes. Every sheet is free to open, print and download — no sign-up and no payment. You may use them at home, in tuition and in your classroom.

How do I print a worksheet?

Open the sheet, then press “Print” (or “Download Worksheet” to save the picture and print it later). Use plain A4 paper and choose “Fit to page” in the print settings so nothing is cut off.
