About these worksheets

Naming the parts of an animal’s body is a favourite EVS topic in UKG, Class 1 and Class 2. On these sheets children look at a clear drawing of an animal or bird — cow, elephant, horse, camel, fish, hen, parrot, butterfly, ant and many more — and write the names of the parts from a word box: head, trunk, tusk, hump, fins, gills, beak, wings, feathers, antennae, tail. Many sheets can be coloured afterwards, and a few ask the child to fill in the blanks instead of labelling arrows.

A smaller set covers animals and plants: matching animals to the food they eat, sorting plants from animals, and a bird-nest maze. Use the sheets to start a conversation — why does a camel have a hump, why does a fish need fins? Pick animals your child has seen at home, on a farm or in the zoo first. Older children can write one sentence about how each part helps the animal.

Skills practised

  • Naming body parts of animals, birds and insects
  • Reading and copying words from a word box
  • How body parts help animals live (fins, wings, hump)
  • Animals and their food; plants vs animals
  • Observation and colouring

How to use these sheets

  1. Name the animal and the parts you already know.
  2. Read the words in the word box together.
  3. Write each word on the line next to the right part.
  4. Colour the animal and tell one fact about it.

Tip for parents and teachers: Link each part to its job: “The elephant uses its trunk to drink and pick up food.” Children remember a part much better when they know what it does.

Can my child do these without reading well yet?

Yes — read the word box aloud and let the child point to the part; an adult or older sibling can help write the word.

Are these worksheets free?

Yes. Every sheet is free to open, print and download — no sign-up and no payment. You may use them at home, in tuition and in your classroom.

How do I print a worksheet?
