About these worksheets

Before a child can read, they need to know each letter by sight. These alphabet worksheets make that a game: find and circle every “B” hidden among other letters, colour the shapes that hold the letter “K”, read a letter and colour its picture, fill in the letters missing from the alphabet, and cut out flash cards for quick revision. For children who already know their letters there are simple picture crosswords with animal names.

The letter sheets suit Nursery, LKG and UKG (ages 3 to 6); the crosswords suit Class 1 and Class 2. Do one letter a day and match it with the alphabet tracing sheet for the same letter, so the child sees, says and writes it. Flash cards work best printed on thick paper — show a card, say the letter and its sound, then think of a word that starts with it. Keep it playful; recognising letters quickly matters more than speed of writing at this age.

Skills practised

  • Recognising capital and small letters A–Z
  • Visual discrimination — telling similar letters apart (b / d, p / q)
  • Alphabet order and missing letters
  • Letter names and first sounds
  • Early spelling with picture crosswords

How to use these sheets

  1. Say the letter of the day and its sound together.
  2. Look across the sheet and find every copy of that letter.
  3. Circle or colour it, then count how many you found.
  4. Name a word or object that starts with the letter.

Tip for parents and teachers: Mix letter sheets with real life: hunt for the letter of the day on food packets, signboards and books. Children remember letters they find themselves.
